Dealing with comfort zones

17:00

Something I really struggle with is comfort zones. I hardly ever wear my hair differently or by different clothing. I think one of my main issues is is that I tend to overthink things. For example, if I was given the opportunity to go abseiling, I might not go because I would think that I would fall or the rope would snap etc. I prefer to stay with things I have done before so I know that they are safe.

What actually are comfort zones?
According to Google a comfort zone is a "situation where one feels safe or at ease". I actually think that they are more than that.

I read a beautifully written post about Living life for yourself which made me really think about what I wanted to achieve in my life. I always worry that when I am older I am going to look back on my teenage years and realise I wasted them doing nothing.

I spend all my free time basically doing the same thing, which is kind of okay because I like that, but I also want to do more. I want to create memories and adventures. I think one of main problems doing adventures is that my comfort zone is tiny and I don't like talking to people I don't know.

This summer, I really want to start doing more and enlarging my comfort zone, which is partly why I created my Summer Bucketlist (I have also made a photo bucketlist, would you like a post on that?) There are quite a few things on that list, like seeing the sunrise or discover new places where I live that I previously haven't done.

I was reading Louise's book (review here) and especially her chapter about comfort zones. She feels most vulnerable and anxious when she goes abroad, but slowly, one step at a time she is trying to combat this. Her main tip is to take small steps at a time which is what I am trying to do. I have also made a list of other tips.

1. Face your fears
Make a list of all of your fears and think of ways to combat them one fear at a time.

2. Do it with a friend
Somethings are meant to be done with a partner. If you have a friend who also wants to enlarge their comfort zone, work together! This way you can motivate each other and it might be more fun!

3. Stop overthinking
Let go of every thought you have about what might happen. Look forward to something foo that will happen and accept the outcomes and results.

4. Hang out with different people
This one is kind of the opposite to number 2, but people usually make friends with people who like the same things. If you make friends with someone who is crazier than you, they might encourage you to try new things that are out of your comfort zone.

5. Imagine succeding
Instead of imaging that things will go wrong, imagine things going right! This will hopefully make you want to do it even more!

I hope this post helped anyone else and made sense! Also thanks for 150 Bloglovin' followers!

Do you have a large comfort zone or are you like me?

  11. This was a refreshing post to read. I always find myself wishing I was older and more independant but I have come to realise that these things take time, and I should be happy with myself in the present. Great post!

Overthinking is definitely the worst thing to do, and I agree, accepting the outcome is so important!

  15. I never heard of "comfort zone'' before. I do overthink also but it is something to improve on. I am also developing a weekly project for myself in regards of the facing your fears so hopefully that helps too.
Thanks for making me aware of this. It was an interesting read.
    Wishing you all the best,
